It’s important to note that not all inspectors meet the same requirements or utilize the same resources. There are three types of inspectors: Licensed Home Inspectors, Certified Professional Inspectors (CPI), and Certified Master Inspectors (CMI). CPI’s and CMI’s take full advantage of additional resources to ensure that they are the best of the best in the industry. At Legacy Home Inspections, every inspector is required to maintain at least a Certified Professional Inspector status.
Licensed Home Inspectors: Must pass the state licensing exam and have 200 hours of pre-licensing education. They must take 12 hours of continuing education annually.
Certified Professional Inspectors: Must be licensed home inspectors, must take the 12 hours of state mandated continuing education and an additional 24 hours annually, and are required to pass the Certified Professional Inspectors exam every three years.
Certified Master Inspectors: Must be licensed home inspectors, may be Certified Professional Inspectors, must adhere to the industry’s toughest code of ethics, pass routine background checks, have been in business a minimum of three years, and completed 1,000 paid inspections and/or hours of continuing education. There are less than 40 Certified Master Inspectors in North Carolina. Legacy Home Inspections is home to one of them.
